Murder On The Rock Pile
by
Danny Motola

It was Jessie's idea to drive to their favorite hide-out on the Sea of Cortez. Roberto reluctantly agrees to leave behind his 4-place Maule aircraft, capable of getting them there in three hours instead of three days, and loads his truck with camping gear. Sure, had they flown, they would have missed the smells and sights of the desert, the tedious wash-board roads, and the dead body. The body is found in an unlikely stretch of the road, called the Rock Pile, notorious for it's inhospitable terrain. Spade, their all-black Great Dane, digs up an article of clothing that could belong to a member of their small community in San Luis de Comondu. When the body is confirmed as Jake Fowler, not the most popular person in their camp, Rob and Jessie vow to find his killer. Too late they realize their misjudgment in bringing his killer to justice.
